Deceus Arhanz van Othrope VI
Basics
Name: Deceus Arhanz van Othrope VI Nickname: Lord Arhanz, Deceus Arhanz VI, Age: Somewhere over 300. Or was it 400? Who cares. Birthday: December 15th Gender: Male Occupation: Species: Vampirus - Different than what you would first believe, Vampiri are not your traditional Vampires. They may be equipped with fangs, but they do not merely drink blood or have an allergy to garlic. Essentially, all that makes a Vampirus is his or her extended lifespan and natural link to ominous, dark magic. They are created from over-exposure to the Lexinomicus, transforming the caster, over time, into a Vampirus. However, the transformation may be sped up or aggravated by enacting an ancient ritual described only in the book itself.
Powers:- Hyperactive Lifeforce :: One aspect of Deceus' extended life is his healing factor. After sustaining an injury, Deceus' body will revert itself to the state it was before he was injured, thus removing the injury. While this is all fine-and-dandy against traditional injuries, things such as fire are a little trickier (and much more painful) to heal. This constant revision of his body grants him a sort of pseudo immortality, as he doesn't seem to physically age, yet is still killable.
This power is not definite, though. In order to maintain this constant state of healing, Deceus needs to devour human flesh. More than simply drinking blood, he needs to regularly eat humans to maintain his powers. While this is unsightly, eating flesh will also speed up the healing factor. Taking a bite out of an arm or a leg will variably increase the potential of his healing. However, after healing for a very long amount of time, the power will start to slow and dwindle and Deceus will be forced to devour quite a bit to maintain his life. If this happens in a battle, things may not go very well for him.
His body naturally stores the flesh he eats when he doesn't have to heal, as well. Making sure to keep up a strict diet daily, these extra pounds of humans are super-compressed inside of Deceus' cells, which has the added side effect of making him hyper-dense. While he may only be about six-feet tall, Deceus weighs well over 900 pounds, and is incredibly thick-bodied. Basically, stabbing him would prove to be harder than normal, and his body acts almost like a walking shield. This is also the reason for his mansion being reinforced with steel rigging, and why it needs constant repair.
- Enhanced Strength :: One good side-effect of his incredibly heft, dense body is the ability to hit harder. More body mass equates to more muscle mass, and he can jump higher, jump further, punch harder, and take on more than a traditional person could. In fact, using physical combat against Deceus is essentially suicide, as even if you could match his strength, punching him is like punching a brick wall.
His hyper-dense legs allow him to have incredibly running and jumping capabilities, often putting him a cut above other beings.
- Lexinomicus Dark Arts :: The bulk of Deceus' offensive and spiritual capabilities, Deceus is the wielder of the Lexinomicus of Black Arts and Forbidden Rituals. A large tome, it is filled to the brim with dark magic and cryptic secrets best kept under lock-and-key. And, in fact, it is - the book itself is bound and held tightly by an enchanted book lock, which opens itself to possible users upon their initiation ritual.
As far as spells go, they are many in number. They range from summoning shadowy chains, creating tangible sphere of darkness, or raising the dead - but typically, any and all uses of the book are banned due to the blood magic hidden within. While it has a number of small spells, the more extravagant and time-consuming rituals require blood sacrifice, from either the user or a different, living creature. His natural healing helps with his part, but the cost is still there, regardless.
The book's in-battle spells are fewer than its rituals and ominous scripture, but they do exist. These spells, be they a burst of magical energy that can pierce, explode, or simply knock someone down; or a storm of violent otherworldly hate; or the chains and shackles of the damned; whatever these spells may be, they are naturally affiliated to death. While nothing is in his arsenal can guarantee a one-hit-kill, all of his spells have the shared power of draining life over time. Hit in the chest with a ray of darkness? You'll feel a little more fatigued than pained. This is because his spells are not meant to kill on their own - they merely cripple and wound the enemy to the point where he, himself may claim the first blood.
The spellbook has a variety of hexes and curses, most of which involve fatiguing or granting bad luck, lowering accuracy or causing hallucinations. These curses have battle potential, but are often used outside of combat to harass and manipulate others to Deceus' will.
While these powers are great, there is a giant drawback to the spells. Most of them are only useable with the book in-hand, meaning Deceus has to hold and read from the book in order to use the more intricate spells, even if he knows them by heart. Although he can preform some spells without the book, they are typically very weak and not worth the effort. He may summon the book to him at any time, but if the book finds itself in another person's hands, it will close and lock itself until that person proves himself worthy.
The ritual required for this is rather grim. The being must trace a circle of blood upon the ground - their blood - and then either sacrifice two lives, or devour a life, within the confines of the circle. The book binds to them at that point, and they may also summon it. Only one book may exist at a time.
Over time, if the bound being uses the book too much, they will become a Vampirus, forced to eat other beings for survival.
Appearance
Hair Color: Deceus' hair is silvery, shoulder-length, and neatly trimmed. Presumably, it turned silver during his transition into a Vampirus.
Eye Color: While his eyes are naturally brown, upon casting spells, they tend to glow orange.
Scars: None. His body naturally repairs all scars.
Tattoos: None.
Piercings: None.
Accessories: His outfit is dotted with various metal pieces, buckles, and gems - and he sports some interesting gloves, too.
Full Appearance: Deceus is a tall man, standing around six-foot two, but is quite unexpectedly over nine-hundred pounds in weight. His hair, as described above, is silvery and shoulder-length. He is broad-shoulder and pale skinned, and much of his body is covered by his large silver-and-black coat, which is designed and patterned with many metal pieces and buckles, leading up to the metal chest-piece which is much more for show than for any type of actual defense. His boots, while designed to be fanciful, are very tough and heavy-duty for constant combat.
Persona
Likes: - Reading. Deceus is a bookworm and always seems to have his nose in a new novel, every day. It is quite possible that he's read just about every book in both his personal library, as well as the library within which he works.
- Fine wine. In his basement, to what most people would see and which he would allow them to see, is a properly placed wine cellar. He has aged wines for hundreds of years - most of which are just for show.
- Science. Deceus is very, very interested in technological advancement, which his company has been invested into for a very long time. He enjoys seeing society change around him, while he often stays just as old-fashioned as he can.
Dislikes:- Ignorance. Nothing grinds Deceus' gears like an incompetent person. If you aren't worth the smarts, you aren't worth the time - he'd rather eat a pile of garbage than a brain-dead moot.
- Long bouts of good weather. Deceus is a rain kind of guy - he likes the clouds and the wind and thunder, its his natural calm. Reminiscent of vampires, Deceus loathes constant sunlight, although he isn't 'weakened' or 'killed' by it.
- Challenging intellects. While idiots annoy him, smarter beings anger him. Deceus thrives on being the most intelligent, crafty man in the room - and if he isn't, he isn't comfortable.
Habits:- Deceus sounds very pretentious, and often quotes scripture from other languages.
- He has the habit of rubbing his chin when he's deep in thought, although he has no beard.
Fears:
- Deceus fears losing his power more than anything. It's this fear that has caused his super-dense body, as he often feasts when he doesn't need to, and just about anything he eats had been a walking, talking human only a night before.
- Deceus also fears losing knowledge. He wants to stay at the head of his game when it comes to time, and he knows he's overstayed his welcome in this world - losing knowledge or gaining a large knowledge gap would be detrimental.
Secrets: Truly, Deceus' only secrets are his powers. The general public, and even the GCMR, don't actually know that he is a Vampirus, and being the only one, none have the ability to classify him as such, anyway.
Hobbies: - Poetry. Deceus likes to write poetry - but not in the common sense. He prefers to write in latin, adding his own phrases into the Lexinomicus.
- Collecting. Deceus collects a lot of things, most notably books, wines, trinkets, and stories.
- Sculpting. Deceus has decorated his house with sculptures he's made himself, carved of stone. Although, occasionally, he does use ice.
Traits:- Pretentious - To make himself appear a step above others, he often puts them down by using his knowledge to counter-act theirs. Basically, he assumes himself to be more intelligent than anyone else, making him appear very pretentious.
- Calm - Very rarely does Deceus lose his cool. Even when his plan is foiled, even when he is backed into a wall, he doesn't lose his serenity.
- Intelligent - He may be pretentious, but there are true smarts in that brain of his, and he is certainly very resourceful with it.
- Mannerly - Deceus minds his archaic manners at all times. No elbows on the table, ladies first - chivalrous acts like that.
- Malicious - Deceus is one of the baddest guys on the block. Behind closed doors, Deceus is horrifying, bloody, and very, very violent.
- Manipulative - Pulling strings is second-nature to Deceus, who uses just a touch of magic to get his way.

History: The story of the Arhanz family predates most families in Naomia, as they were one of the first families to populate the small town. In fact, Horus Arhanz was rumored to be part of Mark Naomia's exploration party, although that is unconfirmed. Regardless, their family was of the first to lay-down in the town, and it wasn't hard to see why. Hailing from France, the family was very, very rich. Due to an allegiance treaty signed with Naomia, they were allowed a chunk of land upon the side of the mountain for their own domain.
Construction for their mansion, partially-imbedded into the side of the mountain, was still undergoing when Deceus was born. At that point, the then-village had only a few souls roaming its streets. Deceus was a relatively quiet boy, and was completely home-schooled once their mansion was completed. He grew up in the prime of his family's wealth, which was only amplified by a mining company that they had bought out to dig into the mountain for important minerals and resources. Metaphorically, the family struck gold - but actually, they had struck much more than that. Many different metals, minerals, and resources have, from their efforts, been extracted from the mountain itself. But once you dig into Mount Misterio, Misterio digs into you.
Miners started going missing. The cause was undefined, but rumors were spreading throughout the town that they had been taken by ghosts. Determined to find the source of these disappearances, Horus left his family with a small search party who delved into the deep tunnels that the mountain housed. That same night, there was a cave-in, and the entire party was lost. Leaving his mother a widow, the company was forced to shut down, while the family still housed quite a bit of wealth.
His mother left him shortly after, returning to family in Europe, leaving Deceus alone in their home. But he was not saddened. Instead, he completed his education and, at the age of twenty-five or so, began his own research into the mountain that he called home. When he found nothing of import, he decided to take his own trip up the face of the rocks. He only got so far before discovering a cave, one which had not been there the day before. Inside was a wooden table, and upon it was the book - the Lexinomicus. He'd never seen the book before, and decided to take it as evidence, returning to his mansion. The cave disappeared the next day.
No matter what he tried, he could not get the book to open. Its leather was not of this plane, and its binding was too tight. But being too close to the book was starting to wear on the boy. Deceus tried to get rid of the book, but its evil, hypnotic spell washed over him, taking over his actions. He had to open it. He had to look inside of it.
One of the most famous cases of unsolved homicide in the town is the case of a farmer, or what remained of him, who was found in his stable. The sight was gory, and Deceus was responsible - not that anyone knew it, of course. But he did. And he didn't know why he did. He just felt that he should. That the idea sprang into his head, and he thought it was good. He thought it was correct.
He thought it was fun.
At that point on, he began craving more. Suddenly, disappearances were happening all across the town. Men, Women, Children - it was slow, but it was happening. People started to get worried. And as time moved on, people started to question Deceus, as he didn't age. Fearing that others would discover his dark secret, he faked his death - spread the word that he died of a disease. Such a tragedy. His mansion and wealth would then be taken over by his heir, Deceus Arhanz II, which was, of course, himself.
This cycle continued for quite some time, and during one of those transitions, he inherited the 'van' title, claiming to be an heir from a distant land. He went about his business in the town forevermore, lurking over the houses in his mansion, which can easily be seen from the town as it is in the mountains, but appears to be more of a castle than merely a large living space.
More recently, Deceus converted his business interests into funding the scientific advances of the futuristic world, comfortably resting on the bed of wealth he is paid in return. On top of this, he's taken an unassuming job at the local library, working where he can be close to the books. This was a step to get the populace to like him, and he is well loved - he is nice to most people, and puts on certain heirs about community help. He even throws parties and balls during seasonal events-
He's a real man of the town.
