Ginger and white flashed behind a tree. It was a tail, the tail of a fox. A girl shot up the tree, the tail flicking as she climbed and her fox-like ears pricked. She smiled and peered down from the branch she clung to. This is where I belong she thought calmly with a flick of one pointy ear. As she flicked her ear she caught the sound of a far off bark. She loved to meet other foxes! She barked back happily, not surprised by how much like a foxes her bark had sounded. Then with a swish of her tail she let out a howl and hid in the tree, maybe people would think there are wolves in this mysterious forest.
Her ears shot up and she looked at the dark sky with stars sprinkled in the black ink. She let out the hoot of an owl and listened for replies. Another owl hooted and she hooted back before they both quieted, her reply had been to tell the owl to be quiet because she had heard a human. She leapt down from the tree and ducked behind a bush, making sure it was only her ears and tail that could be seen.

Equipped with a flash light, warm clothing and her kitten Maze following, Oriole came to a clearing in the forest to stargaze. The stars were stunning on the clear fall night, and she twirled in the little clearing under the starlit sky giggling like a little girl, a little weird but there was no one around to see her. She heard somewhere in the depths of the forest the faint sound of howling. Even if it is wolves I am fairly sure they wouldn't pay me any attention. She thought to herself with a smirk. She heard the sound of an owl or two and found herself going in the direction of the noise, eager to see an owl and hopefully not scare it away, she absolutely couldn’t help her love of birds, which is why she took the name Oriole after the little bright orange colored bird she loved so much.
She took her time not caring to trip and fall at night and possibly lose her flash light. She heard another hoot before silence and cocked her head to the side and shined her flash light around the area only managing to catch a glimpse of a pair of fox ears as well as a matching tail sticking out of a bush. A fox? She thought curiously moving closer to investigate her kitten leading the way.

Cinder smiled and ducked her head, making sure her tail could still be seen. She let out a meow, pretending it was the kitten. The kitten mewed back and scrambled over to her purring. She drew it back purring as well and looked down at the small creature, flicking her tail side-to-side with excitement. With a smile she reached out a hand to stroke the kitten before ducking into the bush so she couldn't be seen. Making sure the noise sounded far away she let out a growl before screaming, pretending the wolf she had pretended was their earlier was attacking someone. Oh how she loved meddling with humans.
A new idea sparked her, she mewed quietly to the kitten and it flicked its tail in excited understanding and flopped to the ground. Smiling Cinder used her fox-like instincts to sniff out an injured bird. She reached out a hand under the bush and wiped some blood off its chest onto the kitten's neck. Smiling she flicked her tail up into sight one more time, letting out a triumphant bark before ducking under the bush, out of sight on all sides.
Tucking her tail in beside her she focused on the flashlight the girl was holding and blinked simply, using her light control to make it flicker on and off. The she let out a howl, pretending that the wolf was closer now before closing her eyes for a second, when she opened them the flashlight had gone off and she let out a growl, pretending that the wolf was very nearby and angry. She looked to the kitten who was still playing dead and smiled.

As she approached the noticed Maze staring intently at the bush and ran over to it before Oriole could catch her, and she wasn’t sure but it sounded like she was purring. ”Maze, get back here.” She called quietly. She took another step twords the bush seeing the fox tail before watching it recede back into the bush followed by a bark. Where did Maze go. She wondered, worried for her little kitten. She heard somewhere the low growl of a wolf and a scream. Was somebody being attacked by a wolf? She thought slightly rattled. She shined her flash light around until it started to flicker on and off, and Oriole began to panic a little and shook her flash light a couple times and then she heard the howl of a wolf, and she could feel herself shaking and tried to will herself to hold still and stop shaking, but before she could her flash light went out and she let out a short scream then covering her eyes with her hands and felt herself gaining a force field around herself as she thought of the wolf getting closer to herself and she uselessly turned her flash light on and off fumbling more and more each time.
”Maze… are you there?” She called quietly hoping her kitten would come back to her. She told herself to be calm and took deep breaths. I will not cry like some little girl. She mentally said to herself. She crawled over to the bush feeling around so not to cut herself on anything, not that it would matter since she still had an invisible shield around her. When she got to the bush she could faintly see her whitish little kitten and crawled over to her. But Oriole’s face paled when she saw the blood on the side of her neck and pulled the little kitten to her completely shocked.

Cinder smiled to herself as the girl called to her kitten. She'll be in for a fright when she finds Maze she thought, chuckling to herself quietly. She peered through the branches at the girl and smiled. I know another fright for her she thought happily. Looking through the weaving branches at the stars and full-moon above she smiled. Closing her eyes tight she chuckled to herself before opening them again to see nothing but complete darkness, making sure only she could see and that her eyes would glow if they were seen, the darkness meant that she could be mistaken as anything.
She listened intently to the girl's scream and sensed change, but oh well, it didn't matter. She kept silent, flicking her tail at the kitten as it moved its own. Soon she heard the call of the girl, speaking uselessly to the kitten again. Maze can't even understand you, you foolish human she thought, forcing herself not to tell the kitten to go back to its owner and comfort the human. She watched as the girl crawled forward, her face going pale as she saw the kitten.
Closing her eyes tight, Cinder snuck out of the bush and went around to the back of the girl. Opening her eyes and knowing that neither they nor her had been seen she smiled to herself. Her eyes would glow and be the only thing the girl could see, this would be perfect. Letting out a low growl she made sure she sounded like a wolf, she wanted the girl to turn around and think the "wolf" that had "attacked someone" was right behind her.

What had happened to Maze? How could this have happened? Oriole thought to herself, feeling a single warm tear trail down her face. Ragged breath was the only thing passing her lips until the area around her was nothing more the absolute darkness, she drew in a sharp breath franticly turning her head in all directions searching for any kind of light source. She had dropped her flash light earlier, and she couldn’t even find where Maze was now.
Something caught her eyes though, the glowing of a pair of eyes. She stared at them unable to move. A low growl sounded from the creature that she was guessing was the wolf. She stood up and instinctively took a step back, afraid to make any quick movements.
The wolf sounded angry, and would most likely attack her at any moment, and she was shaking at the thought of what had happened to the girl who screamed. Wolves don’t usually attack people. She thought taking a deep breath. ”It can’t hurt me.” She said to herself aloud. At the moment she still had the force-field up and the wolf couldn’t hurt her even if it tried. The reassurance didn’t last too long as she was still terrified of the never ending darkness that surrounded her. She wanted to get out of there as fast as possible, but she couldn’t find Maze. She felt around shakily searching for Maze so she could find some kind of light source to at least get back to the clearing.

Something inside Cinder made her stop and she rose slowly to her feet. Looking up at the sky she blinked and watched as it lit up again with moon and stars. She leaned down and picked up the torch, lighting it again by only focusing on it. Letting out a mewl to the kitten she watched as Maze scrambled to his/her paws and trotted over to its owner. With a sigh Cinder flicked her tail round to her side and twitched her ears in curiosity. She wasn't usually silent, but she felt there was no need for words, instead she exampled the noises she'd used. First she let out the hoot of an owl and pricked her ears at the reply, holding out her arm for the bird to land on. Then she signaled the bird back to the trees and let out an eerie howl before growling like she had before. Lastly she let out a fox-like bark before turning her eyes on the girl.
Sighing she stretched out a hand for the girl to get up with and smiled apologetically at her. Her tail was tucked in to her side now and her ears were pricked calmly as she watched the girl with gentle amber eyes. All her mischievousness had left now, renewed with apology, silence and calmness. Her smile was sweet and welcoming and her hair lay undisturbed down her back.

Oriole looked at the eyes of the wolf slowly rise up and her eyes widened in confusion when the darkness dissipated and went back to the regular faint glow from the moon and the stars. A girl was standing standing a few feet from her. The girl had long ginger hair and a white dress.
Oriole stared in disbelief for a moment as the girl reached down to pick the flash light Oriole dropped earlier. She held it for a moment and it turned back on somehow. She heard the girl make a noise sounding like that of a kittens and felt maze come up from behind her, but before she could be relieved her kitten was okay, she noticed the girl had fox ears and a tail. How could I miss that. She thought bewildered.
The girl hooted which caught her attention once again as an owl gracefully flew over and landed on her outstretched arm, before she signaled it back to wherever it was before. She did a few more animal calls and as she did them understanding fluttered across her face, then the girl stared at Oriole. She with an apologetic smile on her face and held her hand out to Oriole. She blinked her bright purple eyes a few times before taking her hand and getting to her feet. “How did you do that?” Oriole asked confusion written on her face. It was a stupid question and she might not understand that Oriole was referring to the lights instead of talking about the animal noises, but it was hard to think straight after what just happened.

Cinder smiled brighter as the girl glanced disbelievingly at her as the light returned. The girl didn't speak nor did she get up, she just sat their silently staring at her. Cinder put her ears back slightly in defiance as the girl stared at her as though she was crazy, but she understood how she felt and soon pricked her ears once more.
Cinder smiled as the girl looked utterly confused as she turned on the torch and called for her kitten who was now purring laughingly and rubbing against her. She watched as the girl noticed her ears and tail and looked even more bewildered. She flicked her tail away from her side and laughed as Maze sprinted over and pounced on it. She bent down and stroked the kitten before straightening and letting her gaze focus on the girl once more.
She smiled as the girl listened to her calls with an understanding look before staring blankly at her hand. Cinder blinked sweetly at her as she took her hand a stood up. The girl's questioning voice broke the silence and she nodded in understanding. I'm not quite sure, I've been able to control light ever since I was a young child, but never really figured out why she told her sweetly before adding, my name's Cinder, you can call me Cindy. What's your name?

Oriole giggled, a little bit relieved when Maze pounced at the other girl’s tail seemingly fine. “My name is Oriole. ” She said. Oriole just decided not to tell her of her powers, thinking it best to not say anything as the topic of Oriole having powers was not currently being spoken and she thought she shouldn't tell a complete stranger until she got to know her a little more first.
Oriole reached down for her tiny kitten and picked her up with one hand and brought her closer. Noticing the blood still in her fur she touched it curiously, causing it to rub off a little. She had a little smile on her face as she thought how good she scared Oriole. She really thought something bad had happened to Maze and that an angry wolf was going to attack her. Oriole had probably had done the something similar with her powers when she was bored or in a bad mood. It always made her laugh to see people running in terror for a reason they didn’t even know. She smiled at the memory and how hard she laughed and the confused look from bystanders. “That was a very nasty thing you did.” Oriole said with a joking smile wiping the last of the now dried tears from her face.
Oriole stared up between the trees to the stars above her, she still liked to come out and watch the twinkling stars surrounding the full moon, and she had to say it was still a breathtaking scene to Oriole.
